Open-Space Funds Misused And Abused
Tax Software No one could argue with Edison Township Council President Peter Barnes' letter to the editor, published Jan. 28, in which he asserts we need to protect and promote recreational parks and open spaces.
Read the family finance guide from Moneynet.co.uk, providing information on family finance issues such as child trust funds (CTF's) and child tax credits.
Software Tax People need to have places to walk, bike and enjoy open space. But contrary to what Barnes would like you to believe, the Edison council has practically encouraged residential building due to weak zoning law. When 1-acre zoning has been proposed in the past, the council has folded when special interests opposed the zoning changes.

Every Landlord Tax Deduction Barnes also points to the new master plan, which Edison officials have been talking about for more than three years. This foot-dragging has lead to school overcrowding, terrible traffic congestion and skyrocketing taxes. Leading environmentalists, who sit on the open space committee, now cast aspersions on this new master plan.
This bill represents an abuse of the legislative system, and a blatant misuse of the controlled substance act.
Tax Help Finally, the Open Space Trust Fund is the biggest farce of all. This is a local tax, approved by the Edison residents, to buy open space to prevent its development. Instead, the council authorized the purchase of the Oak Tree Pond at the staggering price of $6 million from a developer/campaign contributor to the Democratic Party and Mayor George Spadoro. To add insult to injury, the council is allowing a Commerce Bank to be built on part of the site anyway. This is just one example of how the Edison mayor and council have been wasteful, spending and misappropriating the precious open-space tax dollars we have entrusted them to administer on our behalf. Based on experience, Edison residents must question both the purchasing practices of the council and its ability to handle the Open Space Fund, now and in the future.

Help Tax Council President Barnes states the council is looking for low-interest-rate loans to purchase other property, but he fails to mention that this is wetlands along the Raritan River owned by major Democratic Party contributors, and as wetlands, cannot be developed anyway by federal law.

Ernst Ernst Guide Guide Tax I'm all for open space, but not for open space at any price. The Open Space Fund should be administered by the council as carefully as if it were their own personal money. We must set aside party affiliations and culture new ideas from new faces, and work together for a better Edison.
